Downscaling Forest Science Concepts to Your Backyard

At Reems Creek Nursery

Saturday, June 28, 2025

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

With Nate Osborne and Mike Archer

Pisgah Chapter of the Society of American Foresters

Many in our community were impacted by Hurricane Helene.  The uncertainty and challenges left by this historic storm also create space to imagine a future better than the past.  Translating our imagination into reality can seem daunting.  Your backyard is an approachable and accessible place where you can make an impact on the health of our community today.  We invite you to have a conversation about forestry concepts that can be scaled to your backyard:

  • Assessing your backyard space and identifying areas for improvement

  • Developing a plan to manage your backyard space

  • Identifying and removing non-native invasive plant species

  • Reducing fire risk near your home

  • Creating small-scale forest conditions that are resistant to invasive plants

  • Monitoring your projects to maximize effectiveness

Free, but you must pre-register.

**IMPORTANT: Our classroom space is limited. If your plans change and you are unable to attend, please be considerate and cancel your ticket in Eventbrite so that others may have your space. Thank you for your consideration of others!
