Rappahannock Chapter Report April 2006

By Dave Milby, CF - Chapter Chair

The Rappahannock Chapter recently held a meeting on Thursday March 23. Our program featured a panel discussion regarding the future demand for southeastern timber. The panelists were: Anne Duff from Smurfit Stone, Gary Ball from Ball Lumber Company, Bill Vargo from Hopewell Hardwoods and Jim Green from VDACS. We had a great discussion. Many interesting points were added by the members in the audience.

We also had to fill the Chair-elect position since Terry Lasher has transferred to the Blue Ridge Chapter and I moved up to fill the vacant Chair Position. Anne Ulrey was nominated and accepted. We welcome her as Chair elect for 2006.

Lisa Deaton made a short presentation on 4H Forestry Camp and The PLT Convention to be held in Virginia this year. The Chapter voted to support both of these causes.

Lauren Magalska and Anne Ulrey presented the idea of hosting a “Walk in the Woods” event. This would be a chance for natural resource professional, government decision makers, local interest groups and the general public to meet and discuss topics relating to our profession. We will be hosting this event on May 6, 2006 at Sandy Point State Forest in King William County. Lauren and Anne would welcome any help so please plan to attend. We will be getting more information on this out soon.
