| Welcome to the home page of the South Carolina Division of Appalachian Society of American Foresters, representing the professional foresters and technicians in the state of South Carolina. |
On December 19, 2011, Catherine Templeton, the agency director for the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulations, sent a letter and report to Governor Haley advising the elimination of 11 boards that regulate various professions in SC. The Board of Registration for Foresters was one of the 11 boards discussed in the report. Here is a link to a copy of this report. The discussion concerning the Board of Registration for Foresters begins on page 10.
The SC Division of SAF will be discussing this issue at the February 16, 2012 Executive Committee meeting in Columbia, SC. Position statements on forester registration approved by SAF are already in place at the national and state level. Here are copies of both position statements. Also below is a review of a previous recommendation to disband the Board of Registration for Foresters. This issue has surfaced several times in the past decade.
Any feedback on this issue from SAF members is welcome. Please send input to tadams@forestry.state.sc.us
