Natural disasters, most notably hurricanes and wildfires, cause significant physical and financial damage to our forests.  These disasters dramatically alter forest ecosystems.  How do forest managers prepare for these events, respond after they occur, and manage the recovery of forests and the associated ecosystems?  The 94th annual APSAF Winter meeting will explore how forest managers prepare by utilizing various models and data; respond with rapid assessment models and tools; and implement recommendations for the forests to recover as seen by the success at Francis Marion National Forest some 25 years after Hurricane Hugo devastated it in 1989.

This meeting attracts forestry professionals from three states (VA, NC, SC), representing state and federal agencies, private industry, consultants, academics, and students. This will be an opportunity to interact with hundreds of professional foresters within a two day period, with vast opportunities to communicate with and get to know the attendees.

This Conference will be held January 21-23, 2015 at Columbia Marriott, Columbia, SC. We look forward to seeing you there and thanks for your support!

Contact Mike Bozzo, Arrangements Chair, at (mbozzo@scfc.gov, 803-667-1061), for more information and questions about the meeting.
